Becoming awkward roommates quickly escalates when Mariel, terrified to confess the inadvertent summoning to her mother, blurts out that she’s dating Ozroth. As Ozroth and Mariel struggle with their opposing goals and maintaining a fake relationship, real attraction blooms between them. But Ozroth has a limited amount of time to strike the deal, and if Mariel gives up her soul, she’ll lose all her emotions—including love—which will only spell disaster for them both.

Ik had A witch’s guide to fake dating a demon al een tijdje op het oog, dus toen ik hem zag staan in de boekhandel nam ik hem onmiddellijk mee. Het klonk namelijk als een verhaal waar ik helemaal verliefd op kon worden, vol tropes waar ik van geniet: fake dating, enemies to lovers, crumpy & sunshine, heksen en dat overgoten met de nodige humor.

Het boek gaf me precies dat. Wat een heerlijk verhaal.

Ik vond de romance schattig, genoot van het logische verhaalverloop (niet elk boek hoeft onvoorspelbaar te zijn) en ik vond de personages ook leuk.

Daarnaast vond ik dat er voldoende ruimte was voor andere thema’s, zoals Mariel’s stroeve band met haar moeder en het gevolg van diens verwachtingen op haar magie. Ik vond dit echt toffe elementen waar ik enorm van heb genoten.

Kijk, ik heb ondertussen het romance genre best leren waarderen, maar als er een fantasy of witchy element in zit, dan geniet ik er pas echt van.

Dit is de small town romance met een magische twist waar ik van houd. Het boek was schattig, de setting kwam tot leven en ik vond de personages erg leuk. Niet alles is even logisch (fake dating maar er geen deal uit slaan, Oz, jij kan beter!), maar dat stoorde niet. Het was cozy. Gewoon het soort boek dat je wilt lezen als het buiten regent: kaarsje, thee en dekentje erbij en alles is content.
