Toen The Guinevere Deception verscheen, had ik het boek wel op mijn radar, maar ik deed er vervolgens helemaal niks mee. Totdat meer en meer mensen hem me aanraadde. En dat is maar goed ook, want dit boek bleek behoorlijk in mijn straatje te passen!
Guinevere komt naar Camelot om met Arthur te trouwen. Een man die ze niet kent. Wat niemand weet – behalve Arthur – is dat ze gestuurd is door Merlijn om Camelot te beschermen tegen de magie die op de loer ligt.
Ik was eigenlijk positief verrast door The Guinevere Deception. Het boek las heerlijk weg en ik genoot van het vlotte tempo en de verrassende wendingen. Bepaalde personages sloot ik onmiddellijk in mijn hart. Er waren zelfs bepaalde ships (queer romance!) die zich in mijn hoofd vormde. En dat betekent toch dat ik een bepaalde investment voel voor het boek. Zo veel, dat ik echt wel verder wil met de serie.
De manier waarop White speelt met de Arthur legende – en dus vrij bekende personages bevat – wat het herkenbaar maakt, maar natuurlijk ook een extra uitdaging.
Net als in And I Darken dit het boek weer vol krachtige vrouwelijke personages. Het begint ditmaal wat langzaam, maar zelf heb ik het tempo als prettig ervaren.
Ja, wat zal ik er nog meer over vertellen? Het was gewoon een heel fijn boek voor tussendoor. Een boek waar ik door werd meegesleurd en waar ik makkelijk in kon lezen voor het slapengaan. Zeker als je zin hebt in een toegankelijke fantasy, dan is The guinevere deception een fijn boek om te lezen!
