Meer en meer geniet ik van romantische boeken met een witchy tintjes. Dus toen The very secret society of irregular witches steeds werd aangeraden, besloot ik het boek te lezen. Als je fan bent van Het weeshuis in de azuurblauwe zee, dan past dit boek heel erg goed in het verlengde ervan: cozy, een beetje magisch en bijzondere volwassenen die zich ontfermen over bijzondere kinderen.
Mika Moon is een van de weinige echte heksen in Engeland. Het is echt de bedoeling dat niemand weet dat heksen bestaan, daar hamert hun hogepriesteres wel op. Mika maakt vlogs, want niemand zal haar toch herkennen. Tot ze opeens een vreemd verzoek krijgt: er zitten drie miniheksen in het mysterieuze Nowhere House. Mika besluit eropaf te gaan. Daar ontmoet ze onder andere de bibliothecaris Jamie… Maar niet alles gaat rooskleurig. Er komt binnenkort iemand langs die de kinderen weg kan halen.
Ik vond The very secret society of irregular witches echt een ontzettend leuk boek. Het was schattig, cozy en bevatte heksen. Dan heb je mij al snel tevreden. Het landhuis was leuk, diens inwoners ook en ik vond de leden van de coven ook stuk voor stuk interessant.
Was het boek verrassend qua inhoud? Nee. Maar is dat altijd nodig? Ook nee.
Het is divers, grappig en vooral heel erg schattig. Het was precies waar ik behoefte in had en daarom heb ik enorm van het boek genoten. En omdat mijn leesplezier zo ontzettend hoog was, krijgt het een hoge waardering. Want leesplezier is me veel waard tegenwoordig. Daarnaast ben ik gewoon een sucker voor de found familie trope.
Ik vond het tof dat de hoofdpersoon rond mijn leeftijd was. Hierdoor kon ik me goed in haar identificeren. Haar interne worstelingen tussen haar plicht en wat zij uit zichzelf wilde doen vond ik ook goed beschreven.
Al met al vond ik The secret society of irregular witches een heerlijk boek. Het kwam precies op het juiste moment en ik kon het gewoonweg niet wegleggen. Aanrader als je op zoek bent naar een cozy romance met een vleugje magie.
