Dit is één van de boeken waar iedereen het over lijkt te hebben: The Serpent and the Wings of Night. Nadat het boek eindelijk opnieuw verscheen bij een reguliere uitgeverij, kon ik het boek ook eindelijk aanschaffen. Je kunt je vast voorstellen dat mijn verwachtingen echt torenhoog waren.
Ondertussen is het al een paar weken geleden dat ik het boek heb uitgelezen en die tijd had ik ook nodig om te bepalen wat ik nou eigenlijk van het boek vond. Sterker nog: ik ben er nog steeds niet helemaal uit. Ik vind het boek echt heel goed, maar ik denk dat ik het boek niet op het juiste moment gelezen heb om mee te kunnen gaan op de hypetrein. Het is mijn ambitie om hem een andere keer opnieuw te lezen, in de hoop dat ik dan geen druk ervaar om het boek geweldig te vinden.
Ik vond de worldbuilding erg sterk en er zat een fijn tempo in het boek door alles wat er gebeurde, maar het meest aantrekkelijk vond ik de relatie tussen de personages. Dit vond ik erg sterk uitgewerkt en het maakte voor mij het hele verhaal.
Het is voor mij lastig om te bepalen wat ik dan toch miste. Misschien dat ik niet zo veel voelde voor de hoofdpersoon? Ik erken dat ze badass is, maar heb ik haar echt leren kennen? Nee. Ik moet The Serpent and the wings of night gewoon op een ander moment opnieuw lezen.
