Ik loop echt hopeloos achter met recensies, waardoor ik een keuze heb gemaakt tussen de boeken die ik de afgelopen maanden (!) heb gelezen die ik wel wil bespreken. Zo las ik The Spellshop in oktober tijdens onze vakantie, omdat een collega me zei dat het helemaal mijn ding zou zijn.

En dat was het ook. Ik ben dol op cozy fantasy en The Spellshop stelde niet teleur.

Verwacht geen high stakes bij dit boek, want het is eigenlijk gewoon een soort magische Animal crossing maar dan in boekvorm. Het gaat over een jonge vrouw die haar leven ontsnapt en een nieuw leven op het eiland probeert op te bouwen en een groot deel van The Spellshop is dan ook slice of life.

En daar genoot ik van. Ik vond de personages leuk, ik vond het tof hoe Kiela haar draai weer te vinden en steeds socialer wordt en ik vond de algehele sfeer van het eiland om te smullen. Zelfs nu, bijna een half jaar later, kost het me weinig moeite om me weer naar het eiland en Kiela’s schattige huisje te verplaatsen.

Ik ga het kort houden, maar hou je van cozy fantasy en ben je op zoek naar een rustig boek waarbij je hartslag niet constant 120 slagen per minuut is van de spanning, dan is The Spellshop iets voor jou.
