Ik heb de laatste tijd weer wat boeken gelezen die ik even kort onder de aandacht wil brengen, zonder dat ik er een hele recensie over schrijf.

Dit boek stond echt al veel te lang op mijn TBR en nu ik weer helemaal in Vikings zat, leek het me een perfect moment om het boek op te pakken. Ik vond hem mooi, vol gedegen onderzoek en verhaal, maar het bleef me uiteindelijk niet heel erg bij.

Make your own magic is meer een boek voor beginners dan voor gevorderde heksen. Ik vond het een aardig boek, maar er waren een aantal zaken die me minder trokken, simpelweg omdat ik een andere kijk op hekserij heb. En dat is prima. Iedereen heeft zijn eigen pad. Ik stoorde me wel dat het pentakel en het pentagram door elkaar waren gehaald en dat maakte me meteen een stuk kritischer over de rest van de tekst.
Deze vorm van “TikTok” hekserij, behoorlijk Amerikaans en vooral gericht op de aesthetics en spells, miste voor mij wat diepgang. Daarnaast is deze vorm van hekserij niet mijn ding en vind ik zelf dat de focus op andere dingen van de kunde moet liggen. Aan de andere kant ben ik wel blij dat Lovelace kritiek levert op het kiezen van een richting en het begrip babyheks. Ik vind dat ook zo denigrerend! Naar jezelf en ook naar anderen.
Het is geen slecht boek en je voelt de passie en liefde voor hekserij in Amanda’s woorden. De illustraties zijn mooi en er staan heus wel nuttige dingen in, al was het voor mij niks nieuws. Dit is echt een boek voor beginners met een moderne twist.

Dit was een interessant en goed te lezen non-fictie boek over Keltisch Sjamanisme. Er stonden absoluut wel wat zaken in waar ik iets mee kan. Ik resoneer ook wel met het concept van de drie ketels ipv de chakra’s.
