Na Lights Out keek ik er echt enorm naar uit om het – soort van – vervolg te lezen. Zelfde wereld, andere personages, dat beloofde Caught Up. En oh wat heb ik zitten smullen. Nou ja, ik luisterde het boek. En dat was niet verkeerd, zullen we maar zeggen.
Is Caught up een soort herhaling van Lights Out? Nee. Het heeft heel andere tropes en een heel ander plot. Waar in het eerste deel het stukje maffia maar een klein onderdeel was – en zelfs een beetje random leek – gaat dit boek vooral over de maffia. Nico probeert los te komen van zijn maffia-familie en is nog steeds hoteldebotel verliefd op zijn jeugdliefje Lauren, die adult content maakt op een website. Hij volgt haar (stalkerelement) en probeert haar weer terug te winnen.
En hoewel ik eerst dacht dat het boek nooit aan het eerste deel kon tippen, heb ik er echt ontzettend van genoten. Ik hou er wel van als een boek taboes doorbreekt en dit boek doet dat zeker. Met name over sekswerk en bepaalde kinks. En dat vond ik mooi. Vooral omdat het tevens een bepaalde luchtigheid bevatte.
Vond ik het net zo grappig als boek 1? Nee. Lights out bevatte voor mij meer humor. Toch vond ik dit boek echt weer smullen. Ik snap dat dit een hype is en ik raad echt aan het luisterboek te luisteren, want de stemacteurs slagen er echt in hun personages body mee te geven.
Dit boek bevat expliciete thema’s en is daardoor niet geschikt voor jonge lezers.
