Zo nu en dan kom je een boek tegen op social media en denk je meteen ‘ik heb dit nodig’. Haunting the hunter werd gepitcht als een dark (paranormal) romance waar je als lezer de love interest bent. Ik wist niet hoe snel ik het boek moest bestellen en zodra het beschikbaar was op Storytel, luisterde ik het boek.
Was het helemaal zoals ik had verwacht? Nee. Maar lekker was het wel.
In Haunting the hunted volg je een broer en zus, Cade en Callisto. Cade is een jager, die niets liever wil dan zijn zus beschermen, die op een of andere manier vervloekt is. Cade krijgt te maken met een soort onzichtbare bezoekers (JIJ) en Callisto wordt bezocht door een soort demon. Hierdoor heb je twee romance lijnen.
Wat er vooral anders was dan verwacht, is dat de rol voor jou als ‘little ghost’ een stuk kleiner is. Toch was dat ergens ook wel weer goed, want nu bleef de spanning hoog en blijft het een mysterie waarom je deze rol hebt. Daarnaast vond ik de romance tussen Callisto en de demon juist een enorm fijne toevoeging. Ik heb er echt van genoten, terwijl ik van te voren niet wist dat dit er in zou zitten. (Ik kocht dit boek puur op de ‘jij bent de love interest’, zonder de achterflap te lezen, sue me).
Ik heb het luisterboek geluisterd en dat was een dikke aanrader, dus ik zou zeggen: ga naar je favoriete luisterdienst en geef dit boek een kans. Het is dark, het heeft een vleugje paranormal, maar bovenal is Haunting the hunter heerlijk verslavend.
